STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's 14th-ranked men's tennis team defeated No. 29 Texas Tech, 4-0, in its Big 12 opener on Friday evening at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.
The victory marked the first win in a Big 12 opener since the 2007 season for the Cowboys. It also marks the first sweep of a Big 12 team since 2007 as well.
OSU took the doubles point thanks to the tandems of Jurence Mendoza and Luke Hammond, and Brady Draheim and Mathieu Scaglia.

In singles play, Eleftherios Theodorou quickly defeated Tech's Matheus Leite in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Shortly after, Mendoza beat Ilgiz Valiev, 6-4, 6-2, making the score, 3-0, Cowboys.

The win also marked the 10th sweep on the year for the No. 14 Cowboys.
OSU head coach Jay Udwadia was pleased with how his team started conference play.
"It's pretty much the month of April, you know that every match is going to be tough," Udwadia said. "You have six teams and all teams are ranked in the Top 30. It's just exciting times and every match is like the Super Bowl."
"It's easy for the guys to get up for it. But to get up for it and play well, that was the special thing about today."
Theodorou said his team must have a focused mindset going forward in conference action.
"It's really important how we do in these next couple of matches now," Theodorou said. "We knew Texas Tech was a good team, so we felt like we had to fire it up from the start. So, we couldn't really give them any chances."
The Cowboys (19-4, 1-0 Big 12) are back in action at 1 p.m., Sunday, when they will take on No. 19 Baylor inside the Greenwood Tennis Center.
