STILLWATER – Four members of the Oklahoma State men's tennis team earned spots on the Big 12 Academic All-Big 12 team, the conference announced Tuesday.
Julian Cash, Jurence Mendoza, and Tristan Meraut each earned first team recognition. Mathieu Scaglia earned second team honors.
Mendoza appears on the list for the third-straight time in his career, while Cash and Meraut are each receiving their second consecutive honor. Scaglia is a first-time honoree.
Oklahoma State men's tennis has been a fixture of academic success dating back to the first Academic All-Big 12 team in 1997. In each of the past 21 seasons, OSU has had a representative on the Academic All-Big 12 team every year and has had multiple Cowboys earn the honor on now 20 occasions.
Under head coach Jay Udwadia, the Cowboys boast an impressive total of now 28 Academic All-Big 12 selections and 17 ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Twenty-three honorees make up the men's team, while the women's team features 36. Combined, the first team includes 47 selections (17 men and 30 women) with the second team totaling 12 (six men and six women).
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Next up, the 17th-ranked Cowboys travel to Austin, Texas, for the Big 12 Championships. Competing as a No. 4 seed, OSU opens play at the tournament against No. 5 seeded Baylor Friday, at 9 a.m.
