STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State baseball team scored a combined seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings, which proved to be the difference in a series-clinching 12-7 victory over No. 18 TCU in the first game of today's doubleheader at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The Cowboys (14-10-1, 3-2 Big 12) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh and three in the eighth. TCU (14-9, 3-2) held a 6-5 lead prior to the seventh in a game that resembled the 11-inning thriller between these teams on Friday night.
OSU came up clutch in two-out situations, collecting six two-out RBIs to fuel the victory.
Michael Neustifter led the Cowboys with a 2-for-5 effort at the plate that included a career-high four RBIs, while Jon Littell continued his hot hitting by going 2-for-3 and driving in a pair of runs.
Freshman pitcher Noah Sifrit recorded the win in relief and improved to 2-0. The southpaw replaced starter Carson Teel in the sixth and tossed 2 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on two hits.
Entering the pivotal seventh inning, OSU trailed 6-5 before Matt Kroon's two-out single brought home Cameron Dobbs to tie the score.
Later in the inning, Neustifter singled with the bases loaded to bring home two runs and give OSU the lead, and after a wild pitch plated Littell the score was 9-6 heading into the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Pokes benefited from an RBI single off the bat of Colin Simpson and a two-RBI single by Littell, which increased the lead to 12-6.
The second game of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 6 p.m. and will air on ESPNU.
