Postgame Notes: Oklahoma State 82 Kansas 64
March 03, 2018 | Cowboy Basketball
- OSU earned the season sweep over the Jayhawks. Kansas hasn't been swept in a season series since Iowa State beat them in Ames and Lawrence in 2001. Oklahoma State has swept the Jayhawks on four occasions, the last coming in 1983. The win moved the Cowboys to eight Big 12 wins on the season. Since the Big 12 moved to the double-round robin format, four of the five teams to reach eight wins earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament.
- The win is OSU's fourth win over an AP top-10 team this season, which set a new school record. It gives the Cowboys six AP top-25 wins, which would be the most by OSU since the 2004 Final Four squad beat nine ranked opponents. OSU notched its fourth win over Kansas in the last five tries in Stillwater, which helped close the gap in the overall series to 113-59.
- The seniors for the Cowboys came to play on Senior Day. The four seniors combined for 62 of the team's 82 points.
- Kendall Smith scored a career-high 25 points in this one. He has now scored in double-figures in 10 of the last 12 games, including six 20-point performances. In two games against Kansas, Smith has scored 24 and 25 points.
- The 18-point win was also the Cowboys' largest margin of victory in Big 12 play with their previous high being a nine-point win against Iowa State.
- With Kansas threatening to come back late in the second half, the Cowboys responded with a key 10-0 run to take a commanding 71-51 lead with 5:36 remaining. The run was highlighted by Lindy Waters taking his team-leading 17th charge of the year and hitting a 3-pointer on the other end.
- OSU used three turnovers by Kansas to rattle off a 13-0 run to take a 30-14 lead with 8:48 remaining in the first half.
- The 16-point deficit at the half is the largest deficit the Jayhawks have faced at halftime in a game this season. Their previous highest deficit was 13 to West Virginia and OSU.
- The Cowboys used a 7-0 run early in the first half to jump out to an early 17-7 lead with 13:37 remaining in the first half.
- The Cowboys' eight blocks tie for the most they've had in Big 12 play this season. In the last game against Kansas, the Cowboys blocked six shots.
- The Cowboys never trailed in this one. From the opening tip, they held the lead for the entire duration of the game.
- Mitchell Solomon's seven rebounds gave him 579 for his career, which is now 18th best in Cowboy history. The senior passed Adrian Peterson on his way up the record books.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 579 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001, which is the 24th longest current streak in college basketball.
