WACO, Texas – The 12th-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team tallied its eighth-straight win on Friday night at No. 28 Baylor, defeating the Bears, 4-1.
Â
"It was a great win," head coach Chris Young said. "Baylor always has a strong team and it's never easy to win here. Our toughness and fitness continue to be the important traits of this group."
Â
The Cowgirls opened with the lead after picking up wins on the top two doubles courts to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 advantage over the Bears.
Â
On No. 2, Cowgirls Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova helped the Pokes rebound from a 6-3 loss on court three, defeating Angelina Shakhraichuk and Dominika Sujova in a 6-2 victory. The win pushed the two OSU juniors to 7-3 so far on the dual season.
Â
Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco pulled away late for a 7-5 triumph over No. 62 Kristina Sorokolet and Jessica Hinojosa for their third-straight win. Along with the Cowgirl tandem's 17-7 overall mark on the season thus far, Babic and Blanco have also tallied eight doubles wins as a team this year.
Â
Katarina Stresnakova stretched the OSU lead to 2-0 with a quick, 6-3, 6-1 win over Baylor's Camilla Abbate on court three. Stresnakova had little trouble with Abbate, cruising through her second set to notch her 13th-straight win. Stresnakova pushed her overall record this season to 22-4 and 11-0 in dual matches.
Â
After Baylor got on the board with a straight-set win over Shir Hornung on court six, Sofia Blanco put the Pokes a point away from the victory in a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Shakhraichuk on court five. After Shakhraichuk tied the second set at five, Blanco was able to turn it on and win two consecutive games to lock up the win.
Â
Babic clinched the victory for the Cowgirls in a three-set win over Kristina Sorokolet in the top singles position. After dropping her first set, 6-3, the OSU senior stormed back and forced a third set with a 6-3 win in the second before overwhelming Sorokolet, 6-3, in the decisive frame. The win pushes Babic to 7-2 in the No. 1 spot this season.
Â
As the match was clinched, Marina Guinart led, 3-0, in her third set on four, while Megan McCray was heading to a third at No. 2.
