March 22, 2018 | Cowgirl Basketball
ATLANTA – Oklahoma State's Loryn Goodwin was among the 52 standouts named an all-region nominee for the 2018 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team it was announced today by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The selection committee will select the 10-member WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America squad from the pool of regional candidates.
The selection committee uses an equation to determine the equitable number of nominees from each region. The number of NCAA Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of NCAA Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
Goodwin was one of 13 players chosen for Region 3 after being unanimously named a first-team All-Big 12 pick as well as the league's newcomer of the year and a member of its all-defensive team.
Named to the Wade Trophy Watch List, she was selected as the ESPNW National Player of the Week and to the NCAA.com Starting Five on Dec. 11 and was tabbed as the College Sports Madness National Player of the Week two weeks later. Goodwin was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on three occasions.
The Cypress, Texas native leads the league with her 20.6 points per game and her 3.5 steals per outing. Goodwin's scoring average ranks 19th nationally, her steals average is eighth in the country.
Additionally, she is 12th among conference players in rebounding at 6.7 boards per game, is second in assists at 5.5 per contest and third in assist-turnover ratio.
Goodwin's selection marks the 16th time a Cowgirl has received all-region recognition.
