Babic Named Big 12 Player of the Week

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis senior Vladica Babic has been named Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. It marks the fifth weekly recognition for a Cowgirl this season, and Babic is the fourth different OSU player to earn the honor.

Babic went 4-0 overall last week, helping the Cowgirls to wins over No. 11 UCLA, Iowa State and West Virginia, with a pair of unfinished matches in the win over the Cyclones.

In singles, Babic tallied a straight-set victory over 8th-ranked Ena Shibahara of UCLA to help OSU notch its first win over the Bruins in school history. Against the Mountaineers, she shut out Christina Jordan, 6-0, 6-0 to move to 18-5 overall on the year.

In doubles, the Montenegro product teamed up with Sofia Blanco for a couple of wins, including a 7-4 tiebreaker win over No. 22 Fleming/Hart of UCLA. Against West Virginia, Babic tallied her 100th career doubles victory, becoming the seventh player in school history to reach that mark and first since 1991.

The 12th-ranked Cowgirls will be back in action this week, beginning Friday night as they'll travel to Waco, Texas to kick off a weekend in the Lone Star State with a conference showdown against Baylor. Before returning to Stillwater, they'll travel to Austin for a match against No. 8 Texas on Sunday at noon.
