Cowboys Impress on First Day of Pacific Coast Doubles Championship

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team showed its knack for doubles play on Friday, as three Cowboy tandems combined to win seven matches on the second day of play at the 129th Annual Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship.
Julian Cash and Luke Hammond, the fourth-seeded team at this year's tournament, were the first Cowboys to wrap up play on Saturday. After a first-round bye, Cash and Hammond's first win of the tournament came against Kyle Butters and Jack Heslin of Boise in the Round of 64, as they dropped their opponents by a 9-8 score. The tandem then won a back-and-forth matchup against University of California at Davis' David Goulak and Tommy Lam, 8-5, to advance through to the Round of 16.??
Cash has previously won the Pacific Coast Doubles title, with his victory coming two seasons ago with former Cowboy-great, Arjun Kadhe.
Artur Dubinski and Jurence Mendoza also captured two victories on Friday for the Cowboys. OSU's ninth-seeded contingent defeated Santiago Cevallos and Rafael Gonzalez Almazan of San Diego State University, 8-4, before besting Jake DeVine and Logan Smith of University of Southern California, 8-4, to advance to the Round of 16. ??
OSU's third tandem, consisting of two newcomers this season, Brady Draheim and Eleftherios Theodorou, picked up three wins on Friday, as the tandem won its opening matchup against Eskil Jarlskog and Neil Tengbumroong of University of California at San Diego, 8-2. The pair cruised through the round of 64 defeating Max Cressy and Bryce Pereira of UCLA, 9-7. The pair secured their spot in the round of 16 with their win over Bruce Man-Son-Hing and Tyler Pham who were unattached, 8-5.
The fourth Cowboy tandem, Mathieu Scaglia and Tristan Meraut, competed on Thursday night in the round of 128 against University of San Diego's Pratt Keerasuntonpong and Garrett Kurtz but retired due to injury, 0-1.??
The Pacific Coast Doubles Championship will continue on Saturday, with the Round of 16 and quarterfinals scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m CT.
