March 01, 2018 | Cowboy Basketball
The Cowboys host No. 6 Kansas for their senior day at 3 p.m. on Saturday. You can buy tickets at okstate.com/tickets or watch the game on ESPN.
Playing the Perimeter
The Jayhawks' perimeter play has been a large factor for their success this season (24-6 overall, 13-4 Big 12). Kansas is second in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage and fourth in the league in 3-point percentage defense, making 39.9 percent of their long-range shots and allowing only 33 percent of opponents' 3-point attempts to be made. Their best 3-point shooter is Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, who drains 45 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc, good enough to rank 14th nationally.
Passing The Rock
The Jayhawks are exceptional at passing to open shooters. They are No. 12 in the country this year in assists per game with 17.2. This mark is good enough for second in the conference behind only TCU, who is second in the country in assists per game. Senior guard Devonte' Graham is sixth in the country with 216 total assists this season. Whenever Kansas is done sharing the ball, it usually make shots, knocking down 49.7 percent of its field goal attempts. They have the nation's leader in field goal percentage, as well. Udoka Azubuike leads the country with a mark of 77.7 percent field goal percentage.
Leading the Flock
Since the Big 12's inaugural season in 1996-97, no team has won more conference titles than Kansas. The Jayhawks have come home with 17 regular season championships and 10 conference tournament titles. At the end of the regular season, Kansas has been at the top of the conference standings for each of the past 13 years. This year will finish the same for Kansas, as they have clinched the Big 12 regular season title again. No one has come close to their prowess since the inception of the Big 12, winning a massive 83 percent of regular season Big 12 games.
Taking Care of Business
Senior guard Devonte' Graham is leading Kansas once again this season. He does an outstanding job of not only passing to teammates, but also making sure he doesn't give up the rock. Graham is seventh in the country with 7.2 assists per game and 34th nationally with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.7. The senior out of Raleigh, North Carolina, also leads the team in scoring, putting up 17.2 points per game and second in 3-point percent, shooting at a 42.3 percent clip from deep.
Head Coach Bill Self
Self is in his 15th season with Kansas and has made it to two Final Fours with the Jayhawks, winning the national title in 2008. Self was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2017 and has won the Big 12 Coach of the Year award for the past three seasons. He has won 647 games overall, with 440 of those wins coming at the helm of the Jayhawks. Self has led Kansas to more regular season conference titles (14) than he has home losses (13). Self is an Oklahoma State alumnus, graduating in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in business and then again in 1989 with a master's degree in athletic administration in 1989.
