Cowboy Tennis’ Mathieu Scaglia Tabbed as Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team earned its second Big 12 Player of the Week honor with sophomore Mathieu Scaglia garnering the distinction after defeating No. 43 Luis Erlenbusch of Tulane in singles action and No. 47 Tim Ruetzel and Hamish Stewart in doubles play.
For the second-straight match, Scaglia was the hero as he provided the point that clinched the win for the Cowboys over Tulane after overcoming a first-set loss to Erlenbusch to ultimately prevail, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3.
Scaglia has compiled 16-3 singles record on the year and is currently ranked No. 93 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The sophomore posted a 10-2 record in singles this fall as he started the season going undefeated at the Silverado Resort and Spa's College Invitational to help the Cowboys win the tournament to kick off the season. He then fought his way through the pre-qualifying round of the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships to reach the qualifying round where he won in the first round, but fell in the second round to No. 37 ranked Leo Telles of Texas.
Scaglia also found success at the ITA Central Regional with his only other loss of the season coming at the hands of No. 17 Ferran Calvo of Oklahoma in the round of 32.
The Frejus, France native has collected 22 singles and 11 doubles wins in his young career, while primarily playing the No. 4 spot in singles for the Cowboys.
