LOS ANGELES — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team suffered its first road loss of the season on Sunday with its 71-59 setback against UCLA in front of 2,501 fans inside Pauley Pavilion.
The Cowgirls dipped to 7-2 on the year, while the Bruins improved to 5-5.
OSU trailed by as many as 10 in the first period, but cut the deficit to five at 18-13 as sophomore Abbie Winchester hit a layup as time expired.
UCLA pushed the margin back to nine in the second period before sophomore Vivian Gray sparked an OSU run to get back within three at 24-21. The Cowgirls closed with the final points of the half to trail 33-31 at the break.
The Bruins used a big third quarter, outscoring OSU 20-7 to extend the lead to double digits once again.
Trailing by as many as 15, the Cowgirls got back within 59-50 on a long 3-pointer from Maria Castro with five minutes remaining, but could get no closer.
Gray finished with 17 points, while UCLA's Kennedy Burke led all scorers with 20 points.
OSU will be back in action on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. when it plays host to Oral Roberts in Stillwater.
