STILLWATER – Oklahoma State could not get back into the win column Sunday as Iowa State handed the Cowgirls a 2-0 loss at Neal Patterson Stadium.
In losing their fifth straight, the Cowgirls fell to 10-6-1 overall and 2-5-1 in Big 12 Conference play. The win was the first in league play for ISU, which improved to 3-13-2 and 1-6-1 in the conference.
OSU outshot the Cyclones by an 18-13 margin but continued to struggle finding the back of the net with its top two goal scorers still sideline due to injury. The Cowgirls have been shutout in three of their last four games with Haley Woodard and Marlo Zoller on the bench.
The visitors took a lead they would never surrender in the 27th minute when Shealyn Sullivan delivered her first goal of the season, blasting a 35-yard shot to the far post to put ISU up 1-0.
The Cowgirls outshot ISU by a 14-7 margin in the second half but could not convert a score, and the Cyclones tallied their second goal in the 55th minute on a penalty kick by Kassi Ginther after OSU goalie Hannah Warner was whistled for a foul in the box.
ISU goalie Dayja Schwichtenberg posted her third shutout of the season with six saves, four of those coming in the final 18 minutes.
OSU concludes the regular season Thursday when it hosts TCU at 7 p.m. A win or tie would clinch a berth in next week's Big 12 Soccer Championship for the Cowgirls.
