The Basics
The Oklahoma State football team (4-1 overall; 1-1 Big 12) returns home to host Iowa State (1-3 overall; 0-2 Big 12) Saturday at 2:30 p.m. It marks OSU's fifth home game of the season, with just two more to be played in Boone Pickens Stadium after Saturday.
Get Your Tickets
Single-game tickets for the Iowa State game start at $75 and are available at www.okstate.com/tickets or by calling the OSU ticket office at 877-ALL-4-OSU. Fans interested in tickets can also text the OSU ticket office at 877-255-4678. Saturday's game marks Local Heroes and Ag Appreciation Day at OSU, and ag-based groups can contact the OSU tickets office for a special promo code to get discounted tickets to the game. Tailgating locations may be reserved starting at 6 p.m. on Friday. OSU's Homecoming game against Texas is already sold out, so this weekend marks one of the last two opportunities to purchase OSU football single-game tickets this season.
On the Air
The game will be televised by ESPN2 with Jason Benetti, Kelly Stouffer and Olivia Dekker on the call. The contest will also be carried live on the Cowboy Radio Network, with Dave Hunziker handling play-by-play, John Holcomb providing analysis and Robert Allen reporting from the sideline. Fans outside of the Cowboy Radio Network can listen to the OSU broadcast for free through TuneIn Radio or the TuneIn Radio app.
In the Rankings
The Cowboys are ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press Poll and are No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. OSU reached a season-high of No. 15 in both polls during week four and has now been ranked in the top 15 of the A.P. poll at some point in 10 of the past 11 seasons. Oklahoma State has also been ranked in the top 25 of at least one of those polls since week 10 of the 2016 season. The Cowboys are one of only five teams to be ranked in every set of College Football Playoff rankings since the beginning of 2015, joining Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma and Ohio State. Iowa State is not ranked in the A.P. or the coaches poll this week.
The Series
Saturday's game marks the 53rd meeting between Oklahoma State and Iowa State. OSU holds a 31-18-3 all-time advantage in the series and a 17-6-2 advantage in Stillwater. The Cowboys have won six consecutive meetings overall, as well as each of the last five games played in Stillwater. The six-game streak is the longest for either team in the history of the series. OSU has not lost to ISU since 2011, and has not lost to ISU in Stillwater since 2000. The Cowboys won last year's meeting in Ames, 49-42, and won the last meeting in Stillwater, 38-31, in 2016. Mike Gundy is 8-2 in his career against the Cyclones, while ISU coach Matt Campbell is 0-2 in his career against the Cowboys.
Oklahoma State From a Distance
Oklahoma State is 4-1 after knocking off Kansas, 48-28, last week in its first road game of the season. The Cowboys are led offensively by junior running back Justice Hill, sophomore receiver Tylan Wallace and senior quarterback Taylor Cornelius. A Doak Walker Award candidate, Hill enters week six ranked seventh nationally with 7.49 yards per carry this year and ninth nationally with 577 rushing yards. His 3,186 career rushing yards rank No. 8 in school history and No. 6 among active FBS players. He also ranks No. 10 in FBS with six rushing touchdowns this season and will set a Big 12 running back record this week at 12 straight games with a rushing touchdown if he can find the end zone on the ground against the Cyclones. Cornelius had the best outing of his career in terms of efficiency last week, throwing for 312 yards and four touchdowns on 15-for-20 passing. That performance set OSU school records in single-game passing efficiency (min. of 20 attempts) at 262.04 and in single-game passing yards per attempt (min. 20 attempts) at 15.6 yards. Both records were previously held by OSU's all-time leading passer, Mason Rudolph. Wallace is also making his own mark in Cowboy football history as he joined Justin Blackmon as the only underclassmen at OSU to record four consecutive 100-yard receiving games. Wallace ranks No. 7 nationally in both receiving yards per game (109.2) and receiving yards (546). Defensively, the Cowboys lead the nation in sacks with 24 on the year and are five in front of second-place Ohio State. OSU is also No. 1 at 4.8 sacks per game, averaging a full sack more than the second-place team as well. The Cowboys sit at No. 3 nationally with 47 tackles for loss this season, rank No. 5 in red zone defense and are No. 2 in blocked kicks. Defensive end Jordan Brailford has led the way as his 7.0 sacks this season are tied for the national lead. His 3.0 sacks at KU last week were the most for a Cowboy since Nathan Peterson had 3.0 in 2007.
Big Screen TV
The 2018 season marks the debut of Boone Pickens Stadium's new Daktronics video board, which measures 110 feet wide by 56 feet tall and is suspended on the side of Gallagher-Iba Arena in the stadium's east end zone. The board is the eighth-largest at a college football-only stadium and can show better than 1080HD resolution. The board's brightness registers at 11,000 nits while most similar boards measure at 7,000 nits. The amplified brightness is to account for the fact that OSU's board faces west, and the brightness can be adjusted manually depending on the position of the sun. It was made possible through a gift from Gary and Claudia Humphreys.
