STILLWATER, Okla. – For the second consecutive season, Oklahoma State men's tennis is a preseason top-15 team in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, released Wednesday afternoon by the organization.
Coming in at No. 15, the Cowboys are the fourth-highest ranked Big 12 team behind Texas (8), TCU (10) and Baylor (11). Last season, OSU was No. 14 in the preseason rankings before rising to a program-best No. 4 ranking during their 22-7 campaign that ended with a bid to host a NCAA Regional for the second-straight season.
The Cowboys have 12 matches against teams that are either ranked or receiving votes for the 2018 season: No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 8 Texas, No. 10 TCU, No. 11 Baylor, No. 14 Mississippi State, No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 22 Tulane, No. 24 Texas Tech, and Kentucky, Northwestern, Wisconsin, UCF (RV).
Five letterwinners return from last year's squad, including Julian Cash, Tristan Meraut, Jurence Mendoza, Artur Dubinski and No. 93 Mathieu Scaglia.
Cash and freshman Maxim Tybar begin the season as the No. 30 ranked doubles tandem in the nation. The pair only recorded one win this season, but it came at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships against Louisville's No. 6 ranked Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn. The Cowboy duo had a quality loss in the second round of the main draw to the No. 3 ranked William Blumberg and Robert Kelly of North Carolina.
The Cowboys open the 2018 season with a doubleheader against Lamar and Bryant Sunday, Jan. 14. The matches will be played at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. CT, respectively.
