January 17, 2018 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team remained in the No. 15 spot in the latest edition of the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Men's Division I Rankings, which were released today. Wednesday's rankings mark the 33rd consecutive week that the Cowboys have been ranked inside the top-25 of the ITA rankings, which is the longest such streak during head coach Jay Udwadia's tenure.
There were no updated singles or doubles rankings released on Wednesday, meaning that a trio of Cowboys held onto their spots in the individual rankings. OSU's doubles duo of Julian Cash and Maxim Tybar at No. 30 and Mathieu Scaglia at No. 93 in singles.
Cash and Tybar only recorded one win this season, but it came at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships against Louisville's No. 6 ranked Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn. The Cowboy duo had a quality loss in the second round of the main draw to the No. 3 ranked William Blumberg and Robert Kelly of North Carolina.
Sophomore Mathieu Scaglia came in at No. 93 after racking up 10 singles wins in the fall season. Scaglia went undefeated at the Silverado Resort and Spa's College Invitational to help the team win the tournament to kick off the season. He then fought his way through the pre-qualifying round of the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships to reach the qualifying round where he won in the first round but fell in the second round to No. 37 ranked Leo Telles of Big 12 foe Texas. Scaglia also found success at the ITA Central Regional with his only other loss of the season coming from No. 17 Ferran Calvo of Oklahoma in the round of 32.
The Cowboys' spring season is set to continue on Friday as OSU welcomes UMKC to the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. dual. The Cowboys will then travel to head coach Jay Udwadia's alma mater, Arkansas, on Sunday for the Cowboys first road test at 1 p.m. in Fayetteville.
