ESPN2 To Air Big 12/SEC Challenge Rematch At Arkansas
September 06, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – The Big 12/SEC Challenge basketball rematch between Oklahoma State and Arkansas will tipoff from Bud Walton Arena at 5 p.m. Central on Jan. 27 on ESPN2.
The Cowboys are 3-1 all-time in the Challenge, including last season's 99-71 win over the Razorbacks in a sold-out Gallagher-Iba Arena. That night, Phil Forte became the program's all-time 3-point king by knocking down his 300th career shot from deep.
The Cowboys are 37-14 all-time against Arkansas, including wins in each of the last five meetings. The two programs also share a connection with the legendary Eddie Sutton, who was a head coach at both programs. Arkansas raised a banner into the rafters at Bud Walton Arena in Sutton's honor, while OSU named their court for Sutton.
The trophy for the winning conference has never left the Big 12 office as the league is 25-15 (.625) in the Challenge, having won the series its first three seasons while the Big 12 and SEC split the games a year ago (in case of a tie, the trophy stays with the conference that won it the previous campaign). The Big 12 has posted a 53-35 (.603) record in the last two conference challenge series it has played (vs. Pac-10, SEC) dating back to 2007.
For the third straight year, all games in the Challenge will be played in one day - Saturday, Jan. 27. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all contests of the fifth annual event matching every Big 12 squad with 10 members from the Southeastern Conference. Each league will host five games. In addition, ESPN's College GameDay Covered by State Farm will originate from a to-be determined site of one of the day's matchups.
