Cowgirls Wrap First Day of Pre-Qualifying at Riviera

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team wrapped up its first day of pre-qualifying competition Saturday at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships at the Riviera Country Club.

After one day of play, the doubles tandem of Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova remains alive, while Guinart also advanced to the singles pre-qualifying finals.

Guinart and Stresnakova advanced to the second round of qualifying with an 8-4 win over UNLV's Aiwen Zhu and En-Pei Huang. The Cowgirl duo will match up with Emma Davis and Eliza Omirou of Wake Forest on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the pre-qualifying draw finals.

In singles, Guinart racked up a couple more wins to position herself a win away from advancing to the qualifying draw. In her first singles match as a Cowgirl, the East Tennessee State transfer knocked off Loyola Marymount's Veronica Miroshnichenko, 6-1, 6-3, before wrapping up the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Washington's Alexis Prokopuik. Guinart will match up with Marta Gonzalez of Georgia in the pre-qualifying finals on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Junior Sofia Blanco recorded a first round, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 singles win over East Carolina's No. 95 Celia Ruiz to advance to the draw's second round, where she was defeated by Virginia Tech's Elena Cerezo-Codina, 7-6(7), 6-4.

Stresnakova dropped her first round singles match to Sabina Machalova of Ole Miss, 6-1, 0-6, 6-2, but would bounce back in consolation action with a 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-1 victory over SMU's Anzelika Shapovalova. She will match up with Viktoriya Dzyuba of Lipscomb on Sunday.

Pre-qualifying action at Riviera continues beginning with doubles on Sunday at noon CT.
