SAN FRANCISCO – Oklahoma State remained undefeated Friday night as the 14th-ranked Cowgirls earned a 1-1 tie against San Francisco at Negoesco Stadium.
Â
Claire Gantzer's equalizer in the 79th minute was the lone goal for OSU, which is now 7-0-2 on the season heading into a Sunday showdown at No. 15 California.
Â
The Cowgirls finished with a 17-15 edge in shots in the match, including a 14-9 advantage in the second half and overtime periods, and also recorded 11 corner kicks to USF's four. Both teams' goalies finished with six saves.
Â
USF (2-4-2) created the first scoring chance of the match just over two minutes in when, following a foul that gave the Dons a free kick from 20-yards out, a shot by Camille Wilson caromed off the near post.
Â
OSU managed just three shots in the opening half but nearly converted one of those in the 13th minute when Kim Rodriguez took a free kick near midfield and delivered a ball deep into box where it bounced high off the artificial turf and deflected off the crossbar.
Â
After a scoreless opening half, USF would get on the scoreboard first when Rodriguez took out an attacker in the box in the 70th minute to give the Dons a penalty kick. Sonja Giraud stepped up and buried the attempt to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
Â
Minutes later, Rodriguez nearly recorded the equalizer when she crushed a shot from 35-yards out that was headed top shelf to the far post before USF goalie Olivia Camera leapt and saved the ball over the crossbar in the 74th minute.
Â
Still trailing 1-0, OSU would get the equalizer at the 78:49 mark when Gantzer headed in a corner kick by Rodriguez. The goal was Gantzer's third of the season and marked the fifth goal the Cowgirls have scored directly off a corner kick this season.
Â
With the match tied 1-1, both teams would create chances over the final 30 minutes but fail to convert. Ongaro recorded her sixth and final save with her best effort of the night in the 96th minute when she dove to her right to stop a shot by Micaela Mercado.
Â
OSU returns to action Sunday at Cal in a match set to kick off at 1 p.m. CST.
