Cowgirls Suffer First Loss Of Season

BERKELEY, Calif. – Oklahoma State's unbeaten streak came to an end Sunday at Edwards Stadium as No. 15 California handed the 14th-ranked Cowgirls a 3-0 loss.

After going unbeaten in its first nine matches, its best start since 2011, OSU's setback dropped the Cowgirls to 7-1-2 on the season heading into Big 12 Conference play, which begins this week when OSU hosts Oklahoma.

In improving to 7-1-0, Cal outshot the Cowgirls by a 16-6 margin, with both teams managing a pair of corner kicks in the match. The second half saw the Bears own a slim 6-5 advantage in shots.

Cal opened the scoring late in the first half when Mia Corbin delivered a shot from the top of the box past Michela Ongaro just 25 seconds before intermission.

The Bears would double their lead early in the second half when Guro Bergsvand took a pass from Kelly Fitzgerald and found the back of the net on a shot to the far post from 20-yards out to put the Bears up 2-0 in the 48th minute. The Bears' final goal came at the 81:17 mark.

OSU entered the weekend fourth nationally in the goals but did not manage a shot on frame against the Bears and was shut out for the first time this season.

OSU returns to action Friday when it hosts Bedlam-rival Oklahoma at 4 p.m.
