Cowboys Capture Impressive ITA Preseason Rankings
September 13, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State Men's Tennis team captured two impressive spots in the ITA Preseason Rankings released on Tuesday. Julian Cash was ranked as the No. 18 singles player in the nation. Maxim Tybar was ranked the No. 10 Freshman/Newcomer.
Cash, a two-time All-American and last year's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, defeated six ranked opponents in singles action a season ago, including then-No. 7 Andre Goransson of California and No. 8 Ryan Shane of Virginia. This is the highest the senior has ever been ranked in ITA singles.
Tybar of Minsk, Belarus, made his debut last weekend in Napa at the Silverado College Invitational. The freshman swept his singles competitors and was responsible for five points for the team. Before joining the Cowboys, Tybar collected double-digit wins while competing on the ITF Futures Tour and won 20 singles contests as a junior competitor.
The preseason singles rankings also feature the new OSU doubles tandem of Cash and freshman Luke Hammond at No. 25 and senior Tristan Meraut at No. 112 in singles.
Hammond replaces Cash's longtime doubles partner Arjun Kadhe who made history last season as the only four-time All-American in OSU's illustrious history. Hammond has found plenty of success on the international scene, as he boasts 95 career wins on the ITF Juniors circuit. Hammond's talent is evident in both singles and doubles, where the newest Cowboy signee has won more than two-thirds of his matches as a junior player, which includes an impressive .746 winning percentage in singles action.
Meraut is coming off a 19-10 singles record last year and helped the Cowboys advance to the Round of 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Oklahoma State will head to Laguna Niguel, California for the USA F31 Futures on Sept. 15-24. The Cowboys look to continue their winning ways in the fall season after winning the team title at the Silverado Invitational this past weekend.
