Cowgirls Handle Victoria Country U-18 In Australian Opener

MELBOURNE, Australia – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team used a strong first half en route to a 78-63 victory over Victoria Country's Under-18 squad on Wednesday night inside the State Basketball Centre.
The Cowgirls, who shot 44 percent from the floor in the first half, led 26-15 after the first quarter before extending their lead in the second with a 21-8 surge to lead 47-23 at the break.
Senior newcomer Loryn Goodwin led the way through the first 20 minutes, pouring in 12 points to go with four assists and four steals. Freshman Braxtin Miller added eight points in the half, hitting four of her eight shots from the floor.
OSU cooled offensively in the second half and was outscored by a 40-31 count after the home squad hit 44 percent from the floor in the third and fourth periods combined. The Cowgirls shot 21.6 percent from the floor over the final two periods, including a 1-of-11 effort from beyond the 3-point arc.
Senior Kaylee Jensen came on strong in the second half with 14 points and seven boards on her way to a 21-point, 14-rebound outing.
Jensen was joined in double figures by Goodwin, who finished with 16 points to go with six assists. Miller chipped in with 11 points on the night as well.
OSU will take on former Cowgirl standout Tegan Cunningham and the Waverley Falcons tomorrow night at 7 p.m. A live stream of the contest will be available at www.minddittv.net/wba.
