Neisen Becomes Third Cowgirl To Win State Title This Summer
August 17, 2017 | Cowgirl Golf
VICTORIA, Minn. – Oklahoma State golfer Kenzie Neisen claimed a one-stroke victory in the 2017 Minnesota Women's State Open at Deer Run Golf Club, which made her the third Cowgirl this summer to win a state title.
For the two-day event Neisen shot 7-under 137, including a course-record 9-under 63 in the opening round, to hold off Michigan State's Sarah Burnham for the title. It was the second career state open championship for Neisen. In the summer of 2015, she became the first golfer to win the Minnesota Women's State Open and the Minnesota Women's Amateur Championship in the same season.
"It's special to win. Obviously, being home and seeing everyone," Neisen said. "It's been awhile since I've got to play at home and see everyone. Especially to play the way I did this week."
Neisen joins fellow Cowgirls Alexis Sadeghy and Maddie McCrary as state champions this summer. McCrary sank a 12-foot putt on hole No. 17 to clinch the 96th Women's Texas Golf Association State Amateur Championship, 2&1, over the University of Houston's Allie Anderson. Sadeghy had a month to remember with titles in the Women's Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship and the WOGA Stroke Play Championship just weeks apart.
The Cowgirls will report to Stillwater next week for the start of classes and will begin competing on Sept. 11 at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
