Cowgirls Race Past Dolphins In Cairns, 86-57

CAIRNS, Australia – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team was victorious in the third exhibition game of its tour of Australia on Monday evening, posting an 86-57 win over the Cairns Dolphins inside Bendigo Bank Basketball Stadium.
The Cowgirls jumped out to an early 9-2 lead behind a quick start from redshirt freshman Jaden Hobbs, who scored seven points during the spurt. Freshman Braxtin Miller drilled a 3-pointer from the corner as time expired to extend the lead to double figures at 22-12 through the first 10 minutes.
With three minutes to go, the Dolphins got within two at 28-26 after scoring six consecutive points and would eventually tie the score. Junior Karli Wheeler drilled a trey to move OSU back in front at 34-31 before the Cowgirls would take a 36-34 lead at the break.
A 3-pointer from Wheeler followed by a jumper from Miller extended the lead to 51-36 with three minutes remaining in the third period. OSU led 56-44 through the third period.
The Cowgirls got back-to-back baskets from junior LaTashia Jones to open the fourth before a rebound and putback from junior Jentry Holt pushed the lead to 20 at 68-48. Wheeler would drill another trey with under four minutes to go to extend to a 71-48 margin.
Wheeler led all scorers with 21 points, while junior Maria Castro added 18 for the Cowgirls.
Hobbs finished with 10 points and nine assists, while senior Mandy Coleman scored eight points to go with 16 rebounds.
OSU will close out its tour with an Aug. 16 contest against Basketball Australia in Sydney.
