Cowgirl Soccer Set For Exhibition Match At Missouri

Oklahoma State will open its 2017 soccer schedule with a preseason exhibition match Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Columbia, Mo., against former Big 12 Conference-foe Missouri at Walton Stadium.
Coach Colin Carmichael's Cowgirls are coming off a season in which they made their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years and ninth in the last 11 seasons.
OSU finished the 2016 campaign with a 9-9-3 record that saw it finish fifth in the Big 12 standings. The Cowgirls dropped their opening-round NCAA tourney match at Colorado.
Carmichael returns 18 letterwinners from last year's squad, including eight Cowgirls who started at least 10 games, but OSU must also replace a pair of four-time All-Big 12 performers in forward Courtney Dike and defender Natalie Calhoun.
Five of OSU's top six scorers from a year ago are once again in the fold in 2017. Midfielder Jaci Jones tallied five goals and four assists as a freshman last season, while fellow midfielder Julia Lenhardt had three goals and three assists. Junior forwards Marlo Zoller and Haley Woodard combined for 10 goals and four assists, with Woodard's six goals ranking among the top 10 in the conference.
Also returning to the attack for her final season is Anna Beffer, who enters her senior season with career totals of seven goals and nine assists, including a career-high five assists last season to rank eighth in the Big 12.
The back line returns four starters in senior Laurene Tresfield and sophomores Claire Gantzer, Elise Hawn and Charmé Morgan, while fifth-year senior Michela Ongaro is a three-year starter in goal and ranks in the top five all time at OSU in shutouts and saves.
Saturday's Opponent
Missouri is coming off a 2016 season that saw it finish with an 11-7-2 record. The Tigers also lost in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to Kansas in double overtime.
Mizzou returns a significant amount of offensive firepower in '17. Forward Sarah Luebbert racked up 10 goals and four assists as a freshman last season, while the senior duo of Jessica Johnson and Allie Hess is back after combining for 11 goals and seven assists a year ago
Saturday's match will renew a former conference rivalry, with OSU and Missouri having met on the pitch 18 times previously. The Tigers own a slim 8-9-1 advantage in the series.
