Cowgirl Soccer Wins Exhibition At Missouri
August 12, 2017 | Cowgirl Soccer
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Oklahoma State was victorious in its lone preseason exhibition match of 2017 Saturday night as the Cowgirls defeated Missouri, 1-0, at Walton Stadium.
Â
Freshman Camy Huddleston's goal in the 63rd minute proved to be the difference in a match the Cowgirls dominated statistically.
Â
The match was played in three 30-minute periods, and OSU outshot the Tigers by a 17-8 margin while owning a 9-7 advantage on corner kicks. Ten of the Cowgirls' shots were on frame as four Mizzou goalkeepers combined for nine saves.
Â
OSU used 21 players in the match. Michela Ongaro played the first 30 minutes in goal and recorded a pair of saves, while fellow senior Tanya de Souza notched the Cowgirls' other save in the second period. Freshman Hannah Warner helped secure the shutout, playing the final 30 minutes in goal.
Â
After coming close but failing to score in each of the first two periods, the Cowgirls would finally get on the board early in the third. Freshman Hannah Webb took the ball endline and delivered a pass through the box where Huddleston delivered a diving header into the net past Mizzou keeper Peyton Bauman.
Â
OSU looks to carry the momentum from Saturday's exhibition into its season-opening weekend. The Cowgirls will host Loyola Friday at 5 p.m. in their season opener before a Sunday showdown against UMKC at 1 p.m.
