STILLWATER – Oklahoma State opened the 2017 season with a 2-0 win over Loyola Friday night at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Both Cowgirl scorers tallied their first-career goals in the opening half to lift OSU to the win as sophomore Charmé Morgan delivered the first score before freshman Camy Huddleston extended the lead just over eight minutes later. Jaci Jones recorded assists on both goals.
Combining for the shutout in goal were seniors Michela Ongaro and Tanya de Souza. Ongaro recorded a pair of saves in the opening half before de Souza, a Mississippi State transfer, finished the game and also recorded a save.
The Cowgirls dominated the match statistically, outshooting Loyola by a 19-4 margin and collecting a 13-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Morgan's goal came in the 29th minute when Jones delivered a pass into the box that Morgan was able to corral before making a move and delivering a shot into the net from nine-yards out.
In the 37th minute, it was Jones once again setting things up as she sent the ball through the box where Huddleston, who also scored in OSU's preseason exhibition match at Missouri, was there to deliver a low blast to the far post from 12-yards out.
Friday's match marked the OSU debut for six Cowgirls — Huddleston, de Souza, Hannah Webb, Amy Nguyen, Taylor Olson and Kim Rodriguez.
OSU returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Cowgirls host UMKC.
