Cowboys Set Program Record With Six ITA Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. – Six members of the Oklahoma State men's tennis program were named Scholar-Athletes, while the program was tabbed as an All-Academic Team, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Tuesday. The Cowboys' six honorees is the most in the program's history.
Julian Cash, Lukas Finzelberg, Lucas Gerch, Jurence Mendoza, Tristan Meraut and Nathan Roper were the six Cowboys honored for their academic achievements. It is the third time that Finzelberg and Roper have been tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes, while also marking the second time that Gerch has been selected. Cash, Mendoza and Meraut are all first-time honorees and all three will return to Oklahoma State for their senior seasons in 2017.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
