AKRON, Ohio – Three members of the Oklahoma State wrestling team recorded top-eight finishes at the University National Championships, which wrapped up on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Cowboys Gary Wayne Harding, Jacobe Smith and Keegan Moore each medaled at the event in the University Freestyle division. Former Cowboy heavyweight Austin Schafer notched a fifth-place finish in the University Greco-Roman division.
Â
Smith finished second at 80kg, rolling through to the finals of his bracket with five wins, including a 17-16 upset of Missouri's 2017 All-American and the bracket's top seed Daniel Lewis in the round of 32. Smith would come up short to Lehigh's Jordan Kutler, 10-5, in the finals.
Â
Harding would finish third at 57kg, tallying a 9-5 decision over Brock Hudkins of Northern Illinois to advance to the semifinals. Harding would drop his semifinal match to American's David Terao, but bounced back nicely, dropping a pair of 2017 All-Americans in Minnesota's Ethan Lizak and Edinboro's Sean Russell to complete his weekend.
Â
Freshman Keegan Moore also made a run to the semifinals after a 6-5 win over Edinboro's Dakota Greer in the quarters. After dropping his semifinal match against Ohio State's Myles Martin, Moore would get a 10-0 shutout consolation win over Wisconsin's Ricky Robertson to advance to the third-place match where he came up short to Lehigh standout Ryan Preisch.
