• Pre-Draft Interview With Jawun Evans
STILLWATER – First he was a McDonald's All-American, then an All-American at the collegiate level. On Thursday night, Oklahoma State's Jawun Evans will join the ranks of the NBA.
Evans, his family and OSU head coach Mike Boynton will be in New York on Thursday night to learn the NBA Draft fate of the Cowboy legend that wowed the Gallagher-Iba Arena crowds for the past two seasons.
Evans is expected to become the 33rd Oklahoma State player taken in the NBA Draft, and many projections have him becoming the program's ninth first-round pick of the last 25 years (since 1992).
If that's the case, Evans would join an exclusive list of Cowboys that includes Brooks Thompson, Bryant Reeves, Desmond Mason, Tony Allen, Joey Graham, James Anderson and Marcus Smart.
Evans garnered attention nationwide, earning third-team All-America by Sporting News, NBC Sports and Bleacher Report. The Associate Press named him an Honorable Mention All-America selection and ESPN's Dick Vitale named him to the fifth team All-Solid Gold.
Evans' numbers placed him in elite company. He was one of just four power conference players to average at least 16.0 points and 6.0 assists per game in league play, joining Lonzo Ball of UCLA, Dennis Smith of N.C. State and Monte Morris of Iowa State.
He ranked second in the Big 12 in scoring at 19.2 points per game, which is the 13th best scoring season in school history, and he averaged a Big 12-best 6.4 per assists per game, which ranks sixth in program history.
According to Synergy Sports, Evans led all power conference players in pick and roll points scored (7.6) and created per game (17.0). Over his career, Evans averaged 20.7 points on 45.7 percent shooting and 7.1 assists against AP Top-25 squads.
