Cash and Kadhe Advance in NCAA Doubles Championship
May 25, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. – Oklahoma State tennis' Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe defeated No. 14-ranked Brandon Holt and Riley Smith (USC), 6-4, 6-3, on Thursday to advance to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
The win improves Cash and Kadhe to 30-8 in matches played together this season and marked their third win in the NCAA Tournament as a duo. It was also the 14th time this year that the pair has knocked off a tandem that was ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Cash and Kadhe exchanged service with their top-15 opponents throughout the early portion of the match, as neither side was able to pick up an early break. The match's first elusive break point went to the Trojans, who broke the Cowboy duo and then held serve to take a 4-3 lead in the first set.
Oklahoma State's No. 1 tandem quickly responded, however, as they broke back to put the match back on-serve. Cash and Kadhe followed up their break by holding serve and then breaking Holt and Smith once again, this time on the no-ad point to take the first set.
The second set mirrored its opening counterpart through the early stages, as Cash and Kadhe again held a 3-2 lead at the third changeover. This time though, it was the Cowboys who picked up the set's first break as they further gained control of the match. The All-American duo quickly sealed their first-round triumph by taking two of the next three games to win, 6-4, 6-3.
Cash and Kadhe will look to continue their run in the NCAA Doubles Championship tomorrow afternoon when they take on North Carolina's William Blumberg and Robert Kelly, ranked No. 12 in the nation, at 3 p.m. CT.
