Trio of Cowboys Earn Big 12 End-of-Year Honors
May 11, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State tennis' Julian Cash was named to the All-Big 12 First Team for both singles and doubles, while Arjun Kadhe earned first-team doubles honors and sophomore Artur Dubinski was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, the league announced Thursday.
Dubinski is the sixth Cowboy to be named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in the league's history (1997-present). The right-hander's achievement also marks the second consecutive season that an OSU player has won the award, as Julian Cash earned the honor last season after transferring from Mississippi State.
Dubinski, a native of Minsk, Belarus, joined the Cowboys in early February. In those few short months, he has collected nine singles wins, including a straight-set victory over No. 95 Kevin Wong during OSU's 4-1 win over No. 9 Michigan on March 2. The sophomore has also collected six doubles wins with three different partners during his brief stint in Stillwater thus far.
Last year's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Julian Cash, earned a spot on this season's All-Big 12 singles and doubles teams. The junior has posted an 18-9 (13-6 duals) mark in singles and a 27-8 (17-4 duals) in doubles this season. He has also knocked off 22 ranked opponents across singles and doubles competition.
Cash was twiced named the Big 12's Player of the Week this season (February 21 and April 11), bringing his career total to four weekly honors. That mark trails only three-time All-American Oleksandr Nedovyesov, who was tabbed on five occasions, for the most by a Cowboy during the Big 12 era.
He also joins Lucas Gerch (2016) as the only Cowboys during head coach Jay Udwadia's tenure to earn All-Big 12 honors for both singles and doubles in the same season.
Cash is joined on the doubles squad by his partner Arjun Kadhe, whose 102 career doubles wins are the most in Oklahoma State history. This year marks the third time that Kadhe has been named to the All-Big 12 doubles team, having previously done so in 2014 and 2016.
Kadhe has continued to build his resume as one of OSU's most decorated competitors during his senior campaign, as the right-hander has compiled 35 wins with three different partners. That mark surpasses Kadhe's own OSU single-season record that he set with Cash a season ago.
The Pune, India native also captured his second-straight Pacific Coast Doubles Championship this year, as he and Lucas Gerch won six matches over three days to capture the crown in La Jolla, California, on March 5. Kadhe, partnering with Cash, was also named as a top-eight seed for the upcoming NCAA Doubles Championship, which makes him the first four-time All-American in Oklahoma State's illustrious history.
This weekend, Cash, Dubinski, Kadhe and the rest of the Cowboys will be hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center. It is the second straight season that OSU has been selected to host a regional.
Oklahoma State will square off with UMKC in the first round on Friday at 1 p.m. If victorious, the Cowboys will then face the winner of the Illinois/Drake match on Saturday at 3 p.m. with a spot in the Round of 16 on the line.
All-session tickets for this year's regional are currently on sale only by phone (877-255-4678) or at the OSU Ticket Office. Tickets for all sessions of this weekend's matches are $15, while individual-day tickets will be available for $5 starting one hour prior to the first match of each day at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
