Cowboys Set Program Record With Seven Academic Honorees

STILLWATER – A program-record seven Oklahoma State men's tennis players were honored as Academic All-Big 12 selections, the league announced Tuesday.
Cowboys Julian Cash, Lucas Gerch, Arjun Kadhe, Jurence Mendoza, Tristan Meraut and Nathan Roper all received first-team honors, while Lukas Finzelberg rounds out the herd of Cowboys with a second-team selection.
This marks the third straight year that Gerch and Kadhe have been tabbed with first-team honors, making them the fourth and fifth Cowboys to earn three First-Team Academic All-Big 12 nods. The seniors have also both previously been honored as ITA Scholar Athletes, while Gerch was named the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2016.
Tuesday's announcement also marked the third selection for Finzelberg. His second-team honors this season come after earning a spot on the first team in each of the past two seasons, making him the seventh player in program history to earn three Academic All-Big 12 honors, regardless of team.
Nathan Roper rounded out a quartet of senior honorees for OSU, as the Edmond, Oklahoma native earned his first Academic All-Big 12 selection. Tuesday's announcement also marked the first nod for juniors Julian Cash and Tristan Meraut.
Jurence Mendoza also picked up his second first-team selection on Tuesday. The left-hander was also a first-team honoree last season, and he is the only non-senior on OSU's roster that can boast multiple Academic All-Big 12 selections.
In total, 73 student-athletes were honored on the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Tennis Teams across the league. Thirty-two honorees make up the men's team (24 first team and eight second team), while the women's team features 41 (33 first team and eight second team).
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
