Big 12 Title Defense Begins Friday For Cowgirl Golf
April 19, 2017 | Cowgirl Golf
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Anchored by two-time individual champion Kenzie Neisen, the Oklahoma State women's golf team will begin its title defense of the Big 12 Conference Championship on Friday at the Dominion Country Club.
Neisen and the Cowgirls won in record-breaking fashion on this same course in 2016. OSU posted a new championship record of 8-under par (856), which was 11 strokes better than second-place Texas.
Neisen, who also won the 2015 conference title as a freshman, joined fellow Cowgirl Annie Thurman-Young (2004 and 2005) as the only back-to-back Big 12 individual champions in league history. She closed out the weekend with a 6-under 66, which is tied for the best round in Big 12 Championship history. Neisen's 9-under 207 for the weekend broke the previous Big 12 Championship record by a stroke.
Oklahoma State enters this week's Big 12 Championship having won nine league titles, which is more than twice as many as any other Big 12 program and more than all other current Big 12 schools combined.
OSU boasts a veteran lineup that currently ranks No. 17 in the nation by Golfstat and No. 18 by Golfweek. On top of Neisen, Linnea Johansson is a 2016 WGCA All-American and a two-time All-Big 12 selection, while Chih-Min Chen is the reigning conference Freshman of the Year.
Maddie McCrary is a two-time All-Big 12 honoree, and Emma Broze earned a spot on the 2016 All-Big 12 Championship team and the 2015 all-conference team.
In all, the Cowgirl lineup for the Big 12 Championship combines for eight All-Big 12 Conference selections.
