KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jawun Evans scored 29 points and added 4 rebounds in Oklahoma State's 92-83 loss to No. 23 Iowa State in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday.
Jeffrey Carroll added seven rebounds and 21 points for his 27th double-figure scoring game of the season and his 15th game of 20 or more points.
Phil Forte had 12 points and added a pair of steals. Forte entered Thursday's game leading the nation in free throw percentage and had now made his last 22 attempts from the stripe.
Mitchell Solomon grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive end of the floor.
The matchup to kick-off the quarterfinals was entertaining from start to finish, the shot clock rarely a factor as the teams raced up and down the court during a frenetic 40 minutes.
Iowa State used a 13-2 run to turn a 10-8 deficit into a 21-12 advantage midway through the first half. However, OSU closed the first half with a 13-4 run that brought the halftime score to 39-36 in favor of the Cyclones. The Cowboys limited Iowa State to 2-of-13 shooting from the field to close the first half.
OSU turned the ball over just three times in the first half, marking one of the Cowboys' best halves of the season in terms of ball security.
The Cyclones opened the lead back up to 62-51 midway through the first half before OSU rallied to trim the deficit to 64-59 with 9:26 left. Iowa State responded and extended its advantage to 76-63 with 6:25 left and never looked back from that point to seal its win.
Monte Morris finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for the Cyclones. Deonte Burton added 17 points and 10 rebounds, Naz Mitrou-Long had 14 points and Darrell Bowie had 13.
