Cowboys Ranked in Top 10 For Sixth Consecutive Week
March 28, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team continued to hold a spot in the top-10 of the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Team Rankings this week, as the Cowboys came in at No. 8 in Tuesday's rankings.
OSU is currently riding a nine-match winning streak after picking up victories against Wichita State and No. 32 SMU this past weekend. The Cowboys' winning run is tied for the squad's second-longest streak during head coach Jay Udwadia's tenure.
There were no updated individual rankings released this week, meaning that the five Cowboys currently ranked will hold onto their spots for another week.
Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe highlight the quintet of Cowboys in the individual rankings, as the duo is currently ranked No. 2 in doubles. Cash and Kadhe have posted 22 wins this season in matches played together, with 10 of those victories coming against ranked opponents.
Oklahoma State has two other doubles tandems currently ranked by the ITA. Kadhe and fellow senior Lucas Gerch sit at No. 44, while Gerch and Jurence Mendoza round out the trio of tandems at No. 76.
Three Cowboys are also ranked in singles play, with Cash again highlighting the group at No. 23. The junior has now been ranked in the top-25 for the past four weeks. He is the first Cowboy to achieve that feat since Oleksandr Nedovyesov in 2010.
Cash is 16-5 in singles action this season and is currently riding a seven-match winning streak dating back to his straight-set victory over then-No. 5 Christian Sigsgaard (Texas) during OSU's final match at the ITA National Indoor Championship.
The right-hander is joined by his doubles partner Kadhe and Lukas Finzelberg in the singles rankings. Finzelberg currently occupies the No. 69 spot in the rankings, while Kadhe rounds out the trio at No. 77.
Oklahoma State is set to open Big 12 play this weekend when the Cowboys host No. 16 TCU and No. 6 Texas at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center. The Cowboys will first face the Horned Frogs on Friday night at 5 p.m. before welcoming the Longhorns back to Stillwater on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Big 12 figures to once again be one of the nation's most competitive conferences, as the league currently boasts five teams ranked inside the top 20.
