Evans Among Top 30 Candidates For Naismith Trophy

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State point guard Jawun Evans was named by the Atlanta Tipoff Club as one of 30 players in consideration for the 2017 James A. Naismith Trophy, which is presented to the nation's most outstanding men's college basketball player.
Evans ranks second in the Big 12 in scoring (18.2), third in assists (5.4) and fourth in steals (2.0). In league play, the sophomore leads the conference with 6.0 assists per game.
He finished last night's game against No. 6 Baylor with 16 points and six assists, which is his 13th game this year with at least 10 points and five assists.
Evans is one of three players to win multiple Big 12 Player of the Week awards this season, joining fellow Naismith Top-30 players Frank Mason of Kansas and Jonathan Motley of Baylor.
The 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Trophy will be announced March 1, with the list being whittled down to four finalists on March 19. The winner will revealed on April 2.
