Kadhe Tabbed As Big 12 Player of the Week
February 14, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State tennis' Arjun Kadhe was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career, the league announced today.
Kadhe has been a catalyst for the Cowboys this season and he is coming off another impressive weekend of play where he collected five more wins across singles and doubles play.
The senior's signature win came in the Cowboys' matchup with No. 2 Wake Forest this past Sunday. With his team trailing to the second-ranked Demon Deacons, Kadhe proved to be the spark that ignited the Cowboys, as he blitzed through Christian Seraphim, ranked No. 26 in the nation, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. The senior's win on court four brought the Greenwood Tennis Center to its feet and helped OSU rally to tie the match at 3-3.
Kadhe also picked up a second win in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Sunday, defeating UMKC's Airam Castellano handily, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 1 position. Including his victory over Alabama's Edson Ortiz last Friday, Kadhe is now 8-0 in the Cowboys' eight dual matches this season and he currently has 12 singles wins this season, which ranks second on the team.
The right-hander also picked up two more doubles wins this weekend, including one with freshman Mathieu Scaglia in Oklahoma State's shutout victory over UMKC. Kadhe and Scaglia had never paired together prior to Sunday, but the Cowboys came together to drop Hunter Clark and Vinh Pham, 6-3, to secure the doubles point for Oklahoma State.
Kadhe is the fourth Cowboy to earn the Big 12 Player of the Week honor under head coach Jay Udwadia and the first to do so this year. He joins teammates Cash, Lukas Finzelberg and Jurence Mendoza, all of whom won the award last season.
Kadhe and the Cowboys will continue the dual-match season this week, as they return to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the first time since 2008.
The event, being held in Charlottesville, Virginia, is set to begin on Friday with the draws expected to be released on Wednesday afternoon.
