Washington, Mason Rudolph and Tre Flowers named All-Americans by the AFCA
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington became the ninth unanimous All-American in school history when he was included on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FBS Coaches' All-America First Team, announced Wednesday. Cowboy quarterback Mason Rudolph and safety Tre Flowers were also honored on the second team.
OSU's previous unanimous All-Americans are Bob Fenimore (1945), Terry Miller (1977), Leslie O'Neal (1985), Barry Sanders (1988), Alonzo Mayes (1997), Russell Okung (2009) and Justin Blackmon (2010 and 2011).
Washington was also the recipient of the 2017 Biletnikoff Award presented to the nation's top receiver. He will go down as one of the best and most productive receivers in Oklahoma State history and in the history of the Big 12 Conference. He finished the regular season with 69 catches for 1,423 yards and 12 touchdowns. Washington's 1,423 receiving yards and 118.6 receiving yards per game both led the FBS and his 12 touchdown receptions ranked fourth nationally. He led all FBS players with 17 catches of 30 yards or longer, 10 catches of 40 yards or longer and seven catches of 50 yards or longer.
Rudolph finished the regular season as the leading passer in the FBS, both in terms of passing yards (4,553) and passing yards per game (379.4) and he also leads the FBS in points responsible for per game (22.5). He ranks second in the FBS in both total offense (4,582) and total offense per game (381.8). Rudolph is among the top five quarterbacks nationally in virtually every major statistical category and he headlines the nation's top-ranked passing offense and the highest-scoring offense from any of the Power Five conferences.
Flowers finished the regular season as a 2017 All-Big 12 First Team selection by the coaches and was one of the key leaders of the Cowboy defense. His career tackles total of 267 is third among active Big 12 players and leads the team. He finished the regular season with 10 passes defended, including a pair of interceptions. A vital part of every game, Flowers secured at least three tackles in each appearance during the 2017 season, including a season-high eight tackles on three occasions.
The Cowboys will take on Virginia Tech in the Camping World Bowl on December 28 in Orlando. Tickets are available at okstate.com/tickets.
