Meraut, Tybar Advance at ITA Central Region Championships

MINNEAPOLIS - The Oklahoma State men's tennis team collected nine team wins across singles and doubles competition Friday at the ITA Central Region Championships. Among those nine wins, four came from senior Tristan Meraut and freshman Maxim Tybar in singles competion, as the pair of Cowboys both advanced through to Saturday's action.
Tybar's first victory of teh day came over St. Louis' John Nogalski in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. He also defeated Drake's Tom Hands in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. Meanwhile, Meraut defeated Omaha's Matt Dunn, 6-2, 6-3, and Drake's Calum MacGeogh, 6-3, 6-4.
Outside of Meraut and Tybar, four Cowboys fell in singles competition despite early success in the regional tournament.
In doubles action, the Cowboys carried over their form from Thursday's action, as they once again swept the day, winning all four of their contests.
Tybar and senior Jurence Mendoza defeated Nebraska's Dylan Bednarczyk and Isaac Nortey, 8-3. Mathieu Scaglia and Brady Draheim beat Vinny Gillespie and Tom Hands of Drake, 8-6, while the duo of Artur Dubinski and Eleftherios Theodorou defeated Iowa's Kareem Allaf and Josh Silverstein, 8-5.
The Cowboys' final doubles victory Friday came from the all-English pair of Julian Cash and Luke Hammond, who bested Wichita State's Marius Frosa and Eddie Stoica, 8-6.
