STILLWATER – Haley Woodard's golden goal in the first overtime period lifted Oklahoma State to a 1-0 win over Baylor Sunday afternoon at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
With Woodard's score in the 99th minute, the 19th-ranked Cowgirls improved to 10-1-2 on the season and 3-0-0 in Big 12 Conference play. The win snapped OSU's four-game losing streak against Baylor, and the 10 wins is the most by a Cowgirl team since 2014.
Michela Ongaro recorded her second-straight shutout in goal for the Cowgirls as the senior racked up seven saves, two shy of her career high.
The match was a physical affair as the two teams combined for 36 fouls — 23 of those by the Bears — and three yellow cards. Baylor (7-3-2, 1-2-1) outshot OSU in the match by an 18-13 margin, while the Cowgirls owned a slight 3-2 edge on corner kicks.
BU controlled the majority of the attack in the opening half, outshooting the Cowgirls 7-3, but Ongaro notched four saves prior to intermission to keep the Bears off the board.
Early in the second half, OSU created several good scoring opportunities, winning a pair of corner kicks and getting two shots on frame. But those attempts by Anna Beffer and Woodard were saved by BU goalie Jennifer Wandt as the contest remained scoreless.
In the 98th minute, Ongaro recorded her final save of the match on a shot by Raegan Padgett, and just 71 seconds later, OSU would be celebrating a win.
After receiving the ball at midfield, Charmé Morgan dribbled the ball down the right side to the top corner of the box, where she delivered a cross deep cross that found a streaking Woodard, who headed it in from six-yards out for her sixth goal of the season.
OSU returns to action Friday when they travel to Morgantown, W.Va., to take on West Virginia in a battle of nationally-ranked foes. The Cowgirls conclude the upcoming weekend with a trip to Ames, Iowa, to battle Iowa State on Sunday.
