Cowboys Wrap Up Pre-Qualifying Play in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State tennis' Mathieu Scaglia and Luke Hammond advanced to the finals of pre-qualifying play at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships on Sunday.
In the first round, matched up with Florida's Andres Andrade, Scaglia had to battle back into the match after dropping the first set. Despite falling behind early on, Scaglia would compose himself and cruised through the final two sets to defeat Andrade, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Scaglia, in the second round of pre-qualifying competition, faced off against Notre Dame's Matthew Gamble. He defeated Gamble in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. The sophomore rallied back in the round of 64 facing off with Iowa's Jacob Jacoby after falling in the first set, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The finals will brought Scaglia his last pre-qualifying opponent, Jannik Opitz of Western Michigan who he defeated, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, to advance.
OSU's Luke Hammond also found success in the pre-qualifying rounds. The freshman advanced past Northwestern's Ben Vandixhorn in the first round. In the second round, Hammond faced Alex Knaff of Florida State and defeated him 6-3, 6-4. In the round of 62, Hammond battled hard for the first set against Georgia Tech's Chris Yun and would win in straight sets, 7-6 (1), 6-4.
In the finals, Hammond faced Chema Carranza of Wisconsin where he fell 3-6, 3-6.
Freshman Brady Draheim also competed in the pre-qualifying rounds where he fell after a hard fought match to Middle Tennessee State's Gonzolo Raschiatore in the round of 128 after a bye, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (2). Draheim won his consolation match against Youssef Hassan of Fresno State 6-3, 6-3.
Jurence Mendoza, Tristan Meraut, and Maxim Tybar are all slated to compete in the singles qualifying rounds tomorrow, while Julian Cash earned an automatic bid into the main draw based on his coming in at No. 18 in the preseason ITA Rankings. Draheim and Mendoza are also slated to compete in the doubles qualifying round beginning tomorrow.
