January 04, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis came in at No. 14 in the first edition of this year's Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, which were released on Wednesday. A trio of Cowboys earned spots in the individual rankings, with OSU's top doubles duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe highlighting the group by coming in at No. 5.
Cash and Kadhe return this season after winning an OSU record 34 matches and earning NCAA and ITA All-America honors last year. During the fall slate, the pair became the first Oklahoma State duo to be ranked No. 1 when they were awarded the top spot in the September 13 edition of the ITA Rankings. Cash and Kadhe won 10 matches during the fall season and became the first OSU tandem to win the ITA Central Regional title since Aleksey Bessonov and Oleksandr Nedovyseov did so in 2009.
Lukas Finzelberg's dominant fall season paved the way for the German international to skyrocket up into the rankings at No. 30. Finzelberg won nine matches in the fall, with four coming against players ranked in the top-100. Finzelberg played a vital role for the Cowboys last season as he secured four match-clinching points, including a three-set defeat of Christian Seraphim to secure OSU's 4-2 victory over No. 11 Wake Forest.
Finzleberg is joined in the singles rankings by Cash, who holds the No. 41 spot. Cash tallied five victories during the fall season and advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Central Regional Championships in October. The Brighton, England native is coming off his first season at OSU where he tallied a team-best 54 wins across singles and doubles competition.
The Cowboys' spring season is set to begin in just over two weeks as OSU welcomes Texas Rio Grande Valley and Oral Roberts to the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center for an opening-day doubleheader on January 21.
