STILLWATER – Phil Forte, III, had 18 points and six assists to become the new 3-point king of Oklahoma State. The redshirt senior hit four from deep against the Razorbacks in front of a sellout crowd, in a 99-71 win over Arkansas.
Forte's 300 career 3-pointers now moves him ahead of Oklahoma State assistant Keiton Page (299 from 2009-12) for the school record. Forte is just the seventh player in Big 12 history to reach 300 career 3-pointers.
Five players scored in the double-digits for the Cowboys. Jeffrey Carroll scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jawun Evans added 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists for the Cowboys, who won their third straight after a six-game losing streak.
Oklahoma State started quickly, amassing early leads of 9-0 and 14-2, while the Razorbacks missed their first four shots and five of their first six.
Arkansas pulled within 25-17 with 10:20 left in the opening half, but the Cowboys went on an 18-5 run over the next five-plus minutes to push the advantage over 20. Oklahoma State led 59-33 at halftime.
The defensive changes that sparked the Cowboys to two straight Big 12 victories helped them again in this one, limiting Arkansas to 41.4 percent shooting (24 for 58), while connecting on 54.3 percent of their shots from the floor (19 for 35) in the first half and 50 percent (33-of-66) overall. It was the third straight game hitting the 50 percent mark.
Jaylen Barford scored 21 points to lead Arkansas, which saw its four-game winning streak snapped.
The Cowboys are a perfect 7-0 at home in non-con games this season and are now 37-14 all-time against Arkansas, including wins in each of the last five meetings. Today's win moved OSU to 3-1 all-time in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
Up Next:
The Cowboys will take the short trip down I-35 to Norman to face Oklahoma in the year's first Bedlam matchup, and it will be on the ESPN Big Monday showcase. Tipoff at the Lloyd Noble Center is slated for 8 p.m. on ESPN and the Cowboy Radio Network.
