Arkansas Postgame Quotes
January 28, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
Oklahoma State head coach Brad Underwood
On Phil Forte setting Oklahoma State's 3-point record:Â
"Congratulations to Phil, that's impressive. Any time somebody becomes the best at something, especially at such a storied and great program like this one. I'm happy for him."
On Oklahoma State's defense:
"I thought defensively we were really dialed in. We were active in the first half and we kept them off the foul line. I thought we were good. We got stops, which allowed us to get out in transition."
On the atmosphere of today's game:
"Today was special, this is why I came here. This today, the full arena, the atmosphere. I can't say thank you enough to our fans for coming out and believing in us. This place is special and electric and I believe that from the bottom of my heart. Oklahoma State is elite and today it was elite."
On Jawun Evans' Performance:
"I thought he was incredible today. Eight assists, seven rebounds, it was his floor game and the passes up the floor. He got us off to an incredible start. My goodness was he good today. Jawun is the straw that stirs the drink."  Â
OSU senior guard Phil Forte, IIIÂ
Â
On breaking the record:
"I just have to give all the credit to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and next to my teammates. I've had so many great teammates to come through here, great coaches. Seeing how my teammates reacted is what made it so special: the reaction on the bench and them coming up to me and high-fiving. It was definitely the best part of the game. Without [my teammates], I don't know where I would be. I can't give them enough thanks. Not just for today or anything, but they were trying to get me a shot throughout the game and my career. It was definitely fun to do this in front of our fans. We had a good turnout today. I thought the fans were great. They gave us a lot of energy, and we fed off that early in the first half. It was a moment that I won't forget, but I am definitely blessed to put the Oklahoma State uniform on and be able to take the court with this group of guys."
Â
On the student section:
"Hearing what they were saying on the court, they were great through the whole game. And that definitely makes a difference. We can feed off our fan's energy and make runs like we did in the first half."Â
Â
On the Remember the Ten:
"It's a special moment every year. It's always a big game for us. It is something that is bigger than basketball. It is something that the fans, the Stillwater community, Oklahoma State fans everywhere kind of come together and try to cherish that moment and pay your respects to the family. I can't imagine what those families had to go through, and we just want to honor them any way we can."Â
Â
OSU sophomore guard Jawun Evans
Â
On the fans:
"It was a lot of energy with our fans jumping up and down, screaming names. We were making shots which gives us confidence. That is a lot of help. They started off loud and we scored, and it changed the game for us. It helped us with our defense."
Â
On getting his teammates involved:
"I love seeing my teammates score. Nothing makes me happier than seeing them get points and me getting assists. I check and see how many assists I get and I try to get as many as I can every game."
Â
On the team wanting Phil to break the record:
"We just wanted to get Phil the ball and get him shots. It was great seeing him with that experience. Being here with him and him breaking the record, it was great."
Â
On the energy from the last week:Â
"There is a lot of energy. We are trying to get better every day in practice. Soaking everything in that coach is telling us to do. We take the mentality on defense to try to get as many stops as we can."Â
Â
Arkansas head coach Mike Anderson opening statement:
"First of all, congratulations to Oklahoma State, I thought they played an outstanding game. There was a lot of emotion going on in this building today and I think they rolled with that. Seems like that every time they had open shots, they made it and they got to the free throw line an awful lot. The fouls that took place, I thought it put us off on our defense and that to me was the most disappointing thing, they didn't let us play basketball. Let's not take anything away from Evans and Forte and Carroll, I thought played outstanding. Their bench played well and the just outplayed us. I thought we would've had a much better performance but when we go on the road, you've got to make shots and we didn't make shots. We didn't make shots early and we didn't get stops. We scored 71 points the other night and won our game and now we come here and score 71 and we got beat pretty good, but that's no reflection of what kind of team we have. It was just one of those days where a lot of things went right for them, especially going to the line. I thought that set the tone. It seemed like we were a step slow. We kind of played on our heels. But credit Oklahoma State, they played well."
Â
 On Daryl Macon's performance:
"Well he got in foul trouble and so that plays with you. I mean he just didn't play well. Nothing to take away from Daryl, he just didn't play well. If you ask him he would probably say the same thing. In order for us to be that team that we know we a capable of being, he's got to play well. He's our leading scorer. When your leading scorer doesn't score, we are going to have some problems and we saw that this afternoon."
Â
On coming into the game against Oklahoma State:
"We had a ball game, knowing it was going to be tough ball game. I expected us to show up with a sense of urgency and I just didn't see that. It seemed like we were a half step slow, but we got to learn from it, that's the key. The hardest thing is that we are in our conference and you are in the race, then have to jump out and come over here. Oklahoma State is playing well and they had a tough schedule starting out. I've seen some of their games and seems like they are starting to find their stride. You have a guy like Evans, who can distribute and make plays for everybody else. That's the thing I like about him, he's unselfish and gets his team going. Of course Carroll, the guy who's leading them in scoring and you have a guy like Forte who can knock down shots. I thought they played with more energy than we did today."
