January 18, 2017 | Cowboy Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team remained in the No. 14 spot in the latest edition of the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Men's Division I Rankings, which were released today. Wednesday's rankings mark the 25th consecutive week that the Cowboys have been ranked inside the top-30 of the ITA rankings, which is the longest such streak during head coach Jay Udwadia's tenure.
There were no updated singles or doubles rankings released on Wednesday, meaning that a trio of Cowboys held onto their spots in the individual rankings, with OSU's top doubles duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe topping the group by coming in at No. 5.
Cash and Kadhe return this season after winning an OSU record 34 matches and earning NCAA and ITA All-America honors last year. During the fall slate, the pair became the first Oklahoma State duo to be ranked No. 1 when they were awarded the top spot in the September 13 edition of the ITA Rankings.
The duo won 10 matches during the fall season and became the first OSU tandem to win the ITA Central Regional title since Aleksey Bessonov and Oleksandr Nedovyseov did so in 2009. Cash and Kadhe have never been ranked outside of the top-15 in their time together.
Lukas Finzelberg is currently Oklahoma State's highest-ranked singles competitor. The German international skyrocketed to No. 30 in the singles rankings after a dominant fall season that saw Finzelberg win nine matches, with four coming against players ranked in the top-100. Last season , Finzelberg played a pivotal part in the Cowboys success last season as he secured four match-clinching points, including a three-set defeat of Christian Seraphim to secure OSU's 4-2 victory over No. 11 Wake Forest.
Cash, who sits at No. 41 in the rankings, joins Finzelberg in the singles rankings. The junior has been a fixture in the top half of the ITA singles rankings throughout his tenure at Oklahoma State as the Brighton, England native has been ranked inside the top-60 dating back to March 8 of last season and climbing as high as No. 29. Cash is coming off a season in which he tallied a team-best 54 wins across singles and doubles competition.
The Cowboys' spring season is set to begin on Saturday as OSU welcomes Texas Rio Grande Valley and Oral Roberts to the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center for an opening-day doubleheader. Oklahoma State will square off with the Gauchos at 1 p.m. followed by its match with ORU at 6 p.m.
