Cowgirls Wrap Day Two in Las Vegas, Palm Springs

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team wrapped up the second day of its spring season, split between competition at the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, Nev., and the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.

In Las Vegas, three Cowgirls picked up wins while both OSU doubles teams were victorious.

Senior Viktoriya Lushkova notched her second win of the weekend, defeating Alaina Miller of UCLA, 7-6, 2-6, 6-4, to advance to the main draw quarterfinals. Lushkova's run would end Saturday night, however, as she came up short in a three-set match to No. 22 Mayar Sherif Ahmed of Pepperdine, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.

After a first-round win on Friday, freshman Aliona Bolsova was matched up with the tournament's top seed in fourth-ranked Ena Shibahara out of UCLA. The pair battled it out, going three sets with all three being decided by tiebreaker. Bolsova grabbed the first frame in a 7-3 tiebreaker, but Shibahara picked up 7-4 tiebreaker wins in both of the second and third sets to pull out the win.

In the consolation flight, Katarina Adamovic and Sofia Blanco both prevailed in straight sets in their singles matches on Saturday.

Blanco knocked off a pair of North Carolina Tar Heels in her matches, opening with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 45 Makenna Jones. Blanco would finish off the day with a 7-6(3), 6-3 win over Rachael James-Baker.

Adamovic dropped UCLA's Terri Fleming in a 6-4, 6-1 to rebound from a tough loss in the event's first round on Friday.

In doubles, Bolsova and Blanco handled Terri Fleming and Alaina Miller of UCLA, 6-4, to follow up after a narrow loss to the second-ranked doubles team in the country on Friday. Adamovic and Lushkova picked up a win as well, defeating North Carolina's Alexa Graham and Makenna Jones, 6-2.

After beginning with yet another rain delay Saturday morning after play was cancelled Friday, the Cowgirls in Palm Springs opened the day with a pair of wins from freshman Lena Ruppert and Carla Tur Mari.

Ruppert defeated No. 55 Neda Koprcina of Texas in her first-round match, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the second round where she would come up short to Stanford's Caroline Lampl.

Tur Mari cruised through her first-round match in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Wichita State's Marta Bellucco. In her second round match Saturday night, the Cowgirl senior fell to Karina Traxler of Baylor, 6-4, 7-5.

Action at the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships will resume on Sunday at noon CT with a pair of doubles matches. The Cowgirls will continue play at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. CT.
