Marlo Zoller
Cowgirls Fall In Overtime

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State dropped its second game of the weekend Sunday afternoon as Baylor handed the Cowgirls a 2-1 overtime loss at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Â
Baylor's Aline De Lima recorded the golden goal in the 96th minute as OSU fell to 5-5-2 overall and 0-2-0 in Big 12 Conference play. The Bears are now 8-3-1 and 1-0-1 in the league.
Â
"Disappointing," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael, whose squad suffered its third-straight loss to Baylor. "Great credit to (De Lima) – it was a world-class goal – but to get to that point there were some things that weren't good enough from our perspective. It's the same stuff. We're in a close game, we're as good as everybody we play, we just don't know how to finish it off. As coaches, we've got to do a better job of putting our kids in those positions in training so we can maybe be a little mentally tougher.
Â
"The first half, I thought we were wonderful. We were the better team, controlled the play, pinned them in their end and created a couple of good looks at goal and got one. In the second half, they turned it around and were better than us."
Â
Prior to intermission, OSU owned the majority of the possession, and it paid off in the 18th minute as the Cowgirls took an early lead off a set piece.
Â
On a free kick from the left side, Jaci Jones delivered the ball into the box where it found the foot of Courtney Dike and carried to the middle of the six-yard box. Marlo Zoller was there to tap it in for her third goal of the year to give OSU a 1-0 advantage.
Â
After having limited opportunities in the first half, BU's attack picked up following the break, and in the 68th minute, the Bears would get the equalizer when Sarah King found the back of the net on a low shot to the far post that tied the game at 1-1.
Â
BU managed only two shots in before halftime, but the second half saw the visitors outshoot OSU by an 8-2 margin, including a try by Lindsay Burns with the clock winding down in regulation that Cowgirl goalie Michela Ongaro made a diving save on to send the game to extra time.
Â
"In the first half, our forwards did a great job of getting the ball and taking the hit because we know Baylor is very aggressive. The second half, we did not do a good enough job and so they were able to pin us in. That was one of the biggest factors in the game," Carmichael said.
Â
The Bears capitalized on the lone shot by either team in overtime. Following a short clearance out of the box by an OSU defender, De Lima picked up the ball, dribbled around a defender and blasted a shot from 25-yards out that curved into the far post for the game winner.
Â
OSU returns to action Friday when the Cowgirls travel to Austin, Texas, to take on Texas at 7 p.m.
