Cash and Kadhe Become OSU's First Top-Ranked Doubles Duo
September 13, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's tennis duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe became the first doubles team in Oklahoma State history to achieve the top spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings, which were released today.
Cash and Kadhe are coming off one of the best doubles seasons in OSU history as the pair won a staggering 34 matches together and earned All-America honors at the NCAA Doubles Championship.
"This is an amazing accomplishment for Arjun and Julian, as well as for the university as a whole," head coach Jay Udwadia said. "The consistent performances that those two have put on are being rewarded with this amazing honor. We're looking forward to seeing them do some special things this year and continuing to develop as players and help our program continue to grow. We're going to do our best to hold onto that top spot and then get the rest of our team up there with them."
The last time a Cowboy sat atop the ITA Rankings was Oleksandr Nedovyesov during the 2009-10 season, but Cash and Kadhe's success marks the first time OSU has had a doubles tandem hold the top spot. Kadhe was involved in the previous-best mark as he and Jakob Sude peaked at No. 3 two seasons ago.
"It's a really special feeling to be No. 1," Cash said. "It's great to get a reward for all of the hard work we've put in as a team and with Coach Udwadia. We can't wait to get the season started."
Cash and Kadhe were great against the toughest competition last season, defeating seven ranked opponents including two top-20 foes on their run to becoming All-Americans.
"It feels great to be the first OSU doubles team to be No. 1," Kadhe said. "That was one of our goals and a special thanks to Coach Udwadia as he put in a lot of effort working on doubles. I'm excited and motivated to get my final season started."
The pair are joined by another Cowboy duo in the rankings as Lucas Gerch and Jurence Mendoza nearly cracked the top 50, coming in at No. 52. All four members of the two doubles teams also hold spots in the ITA's preseason singles rankings.
After competing in the NCAA Singles Championship last season, Cash checks in at No. 29 in the rankings while the remaining three Cowboys all cracked the top 100. Kadhe came in at No. 87, Mendoza at No. 97 and Gerch rounded out the quartet at No. 98.
