Cowboys Continue Play At Silverado Invite
September 10, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's tennis collected two more team wins as the Cowboys concluded their second day of competition at the Silverado Resort & Spa's College Invitational on Saturday.
Mathieu Scaglia and Jurence Mendoza were once again the Cowboys that picked up wins as they both won their respective singles matches. Mendoza knocked off San Francisco's Johan Joenhagen, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4, while Scaglia defeated Oliver Poysti in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
The win is the second in as many days for Scaglia, who is the youngest member of an OSU team that is loaded with experience after returning its entire starting lineup from last season's team that advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Tournament. Scaglia, a freshman, is ranked as a top-10 junior player in his home country of France.
Tristan Meraut put up another valiant effort against Ryan Marker as the two split sets and went to a deciding third before Meraut was forced to retire from the match due to injury. OSU dropped its final singles match of the day as Nathan Roper was bested by Christian Brockstedt, who is one of San Francisco's most experienced players and one of two seniors on its roster.
OSU put up another valiant effort in doubles competition where the Cowboys were matched up with in-state rival Tulsa, but ultimately weren't able to collect a win from either matchup. Overall the Cowboys have compiled four team wins through two days of competition in Napa, California.
OSU will wrap up play at the Silverado Invitational on Sunday with the final set of matches slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
