STILLWATER – Oklahoma State took to its home field for the first time in 2016 Sunday night and emerged victorious as the Cowgirls routed in-state foe Oral Roberts, 4-1, at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Â
Freshman Julia Lenhardt scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to lead the way, while Haley Woodard and Courtney Dike also found the back of the net to help OSU improve to 2-1-1 on the season.
Â
After starting slowly, the Cowgirls got a spark from Lenhardt in the 29th minute. Following a scramble resulting in several blocked shots by the Golden Eagles, OSU's Marlo Zoller sent a cross to the middle of the box where Lenhardt was there to deliver a shot from six-yards out and give the home team a 1-0 lead.
Â
The score remained 1-0 at intermission, with OSU keeper Michela Ongaro making all four of her saves in the match in the opening 16:11 to keep ORU (2-2-0) off the scoreboard.
Â
In the second half, OSU began to exert its will on the Golden Eagles, and it started early. Once again it was Lenhardt doing the damage as Anna Beffer sent a long ball ahead to Dike, who tapped the ball to Lenhardt. From there the freshman went to work as she received the ball at the top right corner of the box, used some nifty dribbling to beat her defender and blasted a shot top shelf to put the Cowgirls up, 2-0.
Â
The lead reached 3-0 in the 62nd minute when Woodard was able to tap in a ball that ORU goalie Ryliegh Bohnenstiehl was unable to secure.
Â
ORU snapped the shutout and cut the Cowgirls' lead to two in the 71st minute when Mariah Morgan struck a long shot that caromed off the crossbar and right to Shannon Smith, who sent her rebound shot past OSU keeper Dani Greenlee to make it 3-1.
Â
But OSU put the match away in the 82nd minute when Dike and Holly Brehmer connected on a goal that saw Brehmer deliver a perfect pass through the box to the foot of a streaking Dike, who chipped it in for her third goal of the season and a 4-1 OSU lead.
Â
With her one-goal, one-assist performance Sunday, Dike moved up on several OSU career charts. She now ranks eighth all time in goals with 24 and is 10th in both assists (15) and points (63).
Â
OSU returns to action Friday when they host UCF at 7 p.m. before a showdown against top-10 ranked Florida Sunday at noon.
